  1. Introduction to the `term' v4.1 distribution
  2. ============================================
  3. Since  so  many  things went wrong with the `term' v3.4 distribution I have
  4. decided to change the distribution scheme in v4.0. The same scheme has been
  5. applied  to  v4.1 since it worked rather well and I did not want to rewrite
  6. all the script files which were used to put the v4.0 distribution together.
  7. There  are  now nine distribution archives whose contents are listed below.
  8. For  the most important files PGP signatures are provided to let you verify
  9. their integrities.
  10.    You  do  not  need  to  download all the nine archives in order to get a
  11. working  `term'  v4.0  setup.  Just  download the files you need, explained
  12. below is what the archives contain.

  14. term-4.1-Main.lha (534470 bytes)
  15. --------------------------------
  16. This  archive  contains  all you need to run `term' on your Amiga. Only the
  17. basic set of libraries and documentation files are included. If you wish to
  18. use    other   external   transfer   transfer   protocol   libraries   than
  19. xprzmodem.library  or  need  to  use  special  external  terminal emulation
  20. libraries   you   should   download  the  term-4.1-Libs.lha  archive.  More
  21. documentation files can be found in the term-4.1-Doc.lha archive.

  23. term-4.1-030.lha (533305 bytes)
  24. -------------------------------
  25. This  archive contains all you need to run `term' on an Amiga equipped with
  26. an   MC68020/030/040/060   CPU.   Only  the  basic  set  of  libraries  and
  27. documentation  files  are  included.  If  you  wish  to  use other external
  28. transfer  transfer protocol libraries than xprzmodem.library or need to use
  29. special  external  terminal  emulation  libraries  you  should download the
  30. term-4.1-Libs.lha  archive.  More  documentation  files can be found in the
  31. term-4.1-Doc.lha archive.

  33. term-4.1-Doc.lha (179542 bytes)
  34. -------------------------------
  35. This  archive  contains  the main program documenation in AmigaGuide format
  36. for browsing with MultiView and the like and additional documentation files
  37. for the file transfer and terminal emulation libraries.

  39. term-4.1-Libs.lha (128492 bytes)
  40. --------------------------------
  41. This   archive   contains  special  support  libraries  which  enhance  the
  42. functionality  of  `term'.  These are terminal emulation libraries and file
  43. transfer  protocol libraries. It definitely is a good idea to download this
  44. archive if you don't have these libraries around already.

  46. term-4.1-Extras.lha (207601 bytes)
  47. ----------------------------------
  48. This  archive  contains  extra material that is not absolutely necessary to
  49. run  `term'  v4.1, but may still either be fun to have around or adds extra
  50. functionality. Included are revision 2 of the HydraCom Amiga port which can
  51. be  used  with  `term'  (note:  HydraCom  is  a bidirectional file transfer
  52. protocol  similar  to bimodem), sample ARexx scripts, character translation
  53. tables and sound files.

  55. term-4.1-Locale.lha (204526 bytes)
  56. ---------------------------------
  57. This  archive  contains  the  user  interface text, translated into danish,
  58. dutch,  french, german, italian and swedish and a blank catalog translation
  59. table  file  to  fill in. Download this file only if you want `term' to use
  60. german  user  interface  text  (Workbench 2.1 or Workbench 3.x required) or
  61. wish to translate the user interface text into your preferred language.

  63. term-4.1-Source.lha (645968 bytes)
  64. ----------------------------------
  65. This  archive  contains  the  source  code  to  the  entire `term' project,
  66. including  the  new  user  interface  support  library.  This is by far the
  67. largest  archive in the distribution, so think carefully if you really need
  68. to download it.

  70. term-4.1-DVI.lha (183646 bytes)
  71. -------------------------------
  72. This  archive  contains  the  main program documentation in TeX DVI format,
  73. suitable  for  printing  on  a TeX setup. Download this archive only if you
  74. wish to create a printed manual.

  78. This  archive contains the main program documentation in PostScript format,
  79. suitable  for  printing on a PostScript printer. Download this archive only
  80. if you wish to create a printed manual.

  83. Installation
  84. ============
  85. `term'  v4.1  is  very  easily installed; just unpack all the archive files
  86. into   the   same  directory.  Ignore  any  messages  about  files  getting
  87. overwritten  since  some files are found in several archives. When unpacked
  88. you  will  have  the  complete distribution sitting on your hard disk drive
  89. just  as it looks like in my original distribution tree. You do not need to
  90. copy  the  libraries,  fonts  or  catalog files to the corresponding system
  91. directories, `term' will find the files contained therein all on its own.

  94. Archive listings
  95. ================
  96. Below  is  the  output  produced  by  the LhA program when told to list the
  97. contents of all the distribution archives. As experience shows, the archive
  98. contents  may  grow  since  more or less sensible .displayme files will get
  99. added.  The  core  of the archives should stay intact, however. Don't trust
  100. distribution archives of which some contents are missing.
  101.    Some  smart  guy  unpacked  the  v4.0  distribution  onto nine disks and
  102. recompressed  the  contents  using  the  DMS  program  which  both made the
  103. distribution files larger and more difficult to review. In addition to that
  104. all occurences of the ".lha" suffix in the "term-4.0-Roadmap.txt" file were
  105. replaced by ".dms" to make things look more `official'. So, if ".lha" reads
  106. ".dms"  in  this  document  you can be sure that this has happened again. I
  107. *never* distribute `term' in the form of DMS archives.
